European goldfinch
Carduelis carduelis
The European goldfinch is a brightly colored bird, with a light brown back and chest, a whitish abdomen and black tipped wings with bits of intense yellow. They have black coloring on their heads, their cheeks are white and around the beak, the goldfinch has a red marking bit of extra detailing, they also have white spots on the tip of their wings and tail feathers. The body length is 12-13 cm and has an average weight of 17 – 29 g. Their diet is predominantly vegetarian, feeding on buds, flowers or fruits, as well as seeds and dried fruits in the cold season. It is the female that builds the nest entirely and is generally completed within a week.
This bird usually stays in Romania over winter and nests in forests, parks with abundant trees, orchards and gardens, or small forests along rivers.
As a fun fact, in Romanian slang, a cop is sometimes called goldfinch (sticlete). It appears that the connection between this bird and the police personnel is related to a past police uniform which had elements of deep red.

Sticletele este o pasăre viu colorată, cu spatele și pieptul maro deschis, abdomenul albicios și aripile cu vârfuri negre, cu bucăți de galben intens. Au capul de culoare neagră, obrajii sunt albi iar în jurul ciocului are un însemn roșu. Spre vârfurile aripilor și pe penele cozii sunt decorate cu mici picățele albe. Lungimea corpului este de 12-13 cm si au o greutate medie de 17-29 g. Dieta lor este predominant vegetariana, hrănindu-se cu muguri, flori sau fructe, precum și semințe ori fructe uscate în sezonul rece. Femela este cea care construiește cu totul cuibul și este de obicei finalizat in decurs de o săptămână.
Aceasta pasăre rămâne de obicei în România pe durata iernii și își face cuib în păduri, parcuri cu mulți arbori, livezi și grădini, sau mici păduri de-a lungul râurilor.
Ca o curiozitate, în argoul românesc, un polițist este uneori numit sticlete. Se pare că legătura dintre această pasăre și personalul de poliție este dată de o uniformă de poliție din trecut care conținea și detalii de un roșu intens.

Der Stieglitz ist ein farbenprächtiger Vogel mit hellbraunem Rücken und Brust, weißem Bauch und schwarzen Flügeln mit intensiv gelben Flecken. Der Kopf ist schwarz gefärbt, die Wangen sind weiß, und um den Schnabel herum hat der Stieglitz eine rote Zeichnung, die ein wenig mehr Details aufweist, sowie weiße Flecken an der Spitze der Flügel und der Schwanzfedern. Die Körperlänge beträgt 12-13 cm und das Durchschnittsgewicht 17-29 g. Die Ernährung ist überwiegend vegetarisch, sie ernähren sich von Knospen, Blüten oder Früchten, in der kalten Jahreszeit auch von Samen und Trockenfrüchten. Das Nest wird vollständig vom Weibchen gebaut und ist im Allgemeinen innerhalb einer Woche fertig.
Dieser Vogel überwintert normalerweise in Rumänien und nistet in Wäldern, Parks mit reichlich Bäumen, Obstgärten und Gärten oder in kleinen Wäldern entlang von Flüssen.
In der rumänischen Umgangssprache wird der Bulle manchmal Stieglitz (sticlete) genannt. Es scheint, dass die Verbindung zwischen diesem Vogel und dem Polizeipersonal mit einer früheren Polizeiuniform zusammenhängt, die Elemente von tiefem Rot aufwies

Le chardonneret élégant est un oiseau aux couleurs vives, avec un dos et une poitrine marron clair, un abdomen blanchâtre et des ailes à bout noir avec des morceaux de jaune intense. Ils ont une coloration noire sur la tête, leurs joues sont blanches et autour du bec, le chardonneret a une marque rouge de détails supplémentaires, ils ont également des taches blanches sur le bout de leurs ailes et des plumes de la queue. La longueur du corps est de 12 à 13 cm et son poids moyen est de 17 à 29 g. Leur régime alimentaire est majoritairement végétarien, se nourrissant de bourgeons, de fleurs ou de fruits, ainsi que de graines et de fruits secs en saison froide. C’est la femelle qui construit entièrement le nid et qui est généralement terminé en une semaine.
Cet oiseau reste généralement en Roumanie pendant l’hiver et niche dans les forêts, les parcs aux arbres abondants, les vergers et les jardins, ou les petites forêts le long des rivières.
Fait amusant, dans l’argot roumain, un flic est parfois appelé chardonneret (sticlete). Il semble que le lien entre cet oiseau et le personnel de police soit lié à un ancien uniforme de police qui comportait des éléments de rouge foncé.
